What is the UNC Blue and Gold Club?

Created in 1982, the UNC Blue and Gold is made up of alumni and friends of the University of Northern Colorado united in an organized effort to serve the University through their particular interest in Intercollegiate Athletics. Dedicated to providing scholarship assistance to qualified student-athletes, the Club has provided a much-needed extra measure of support, since revenue from gate receipts and appropriations from the University are insufficient to meet growing athletic scholarship demands. The Club annually awards over $700,000 in athletic grant-in-aid. Other important purposes of the Club include contributing funds for capital improvements to UNC athletic facilities and for other athletic activities that are not normally funded through institutional and/or student fee allocation sources.

What do Athletic Scholarships Mean To a Top Athletic Program?

UNC's move to the NCAA Division I level and its success on the playing field rests upon its ability to attract the best and brightest student-athletes.

Blue and Gold scholarships enable UNC male and female student- athletes to pursue a quality education at one of the region's top universities and participate in an intercollegiate athletic program that competes on a national level.

Because of the support provided by the UNC Blue and Gold Club, UNC student-athletes have maintained a level of athletic and academic excellence of which the University, our alumni and fans may be proud.

Recent achievements by UNC student-athletes include:

  • 29 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans since 1989
  • 26 All-America Performers in 2002-03
  • 53 North Central Conference team championships from 1980 through the 2002-03 year
  • Two National Football Championships
  • Numerous Academic All-Conference selections

    Champions ... In the Classroom

Not only has the UNC Blue and Gold Club produced champions on the field, but, more importantly, it helps produce champions in the classroom. Nearly 20 percent of UNC student-athletes were recognized for having cumulative grade-point averages of 3.25 or above last year, and since the inception of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, the Bears have had 14 student-athletes earn the prestigious award.
