FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado indoor track & field team continues to rewrite the school record books as four more school records were broken at the Don Barrett Air Force Open.

 

Freshman Kelly Coomes broke her own record in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing sixth overall and fourth among collegians with a time of 8.77, breaking her record of 8.83 from last week.

 

The women's 4x440 yard relay team consisting of Jillian Hoblitt, Lauren Iseman, Ashley Stec and Justine Sandersfeld ran a 3:56.92 to finish third overall behind a pair of Big XII teams. Last week, they clocked a 3:58.03 for the previous school record.

 

In the women's weight throw, junior Meaghan Green finished fifth overall and fourth among collegians with a huge throw of 58-3 to improve her own school record by three feet. Green placed behind two NCAA qualifiers from a season ago.

 

Junior Patrick Berg also broke his own record in the shot put, throwing 54-7.25 to break his record of 54-6 from Jan. 13. He finished fourth overall and third among collegians.

 

Sophomore Justine Sandersfeld was the top collegian and third overall in the 400 meters with her clocking of 58.24 in the 400 meters and senior Ashley Stec finished fifth in the same race with a time of 58.41. Senior Tali Slafter placed fourth in the long jump after leaping 18-4.25.

 

Freshman Terrence McGaughy continued to make an impact in the sprints, finishing fifth overall and fourth among collegians in the 60 meters with a time of 6.86 and he placed fourth in the 200 meters clocking a 21.73, just missing the school record of 21.69. Sophomore Tyler Hoerner was the top collegiate athlete in the 400 meters and he was third overall with a time of 49.10. Senior Jeff Vaden did the same thing in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing third overall and was the top collegian, clocking a 8.29. Vaden also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22-1.5.

 

The 4x400 yard relay team of Hoerner, Travis Stanford, Marty Wittmer and Collin Effler placed second in 3:21.01.

 

Next Saturday the Bears will travel to Golden to take place in the Colorado School of Mines Open beginning at 9:00 a.m.
