GREELEY, Colo. - The Northern Colorado track & field teams split squads with several members in Tempe for the 29th annual Sun Angel Classic while the rest of the team was in Boulder for the Colorado Invitational.

 

At the Sun Angel Classic, sophomore Justine Sandersfeld broke her own school record in the 400 meters for the second time this season, running a 55.60 to finish seventh at the Sun Angel Classic. Freshman Jillian Hoblitt finished 20th in the same race, running a 57.85 to qualify for the Big Sky Conference Championship. Sophomore Lisa Drew finished 16th in the 800 meters after clocking a 2:20.83.

 

Freshman Kelly Coomes improved her qualifying time in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking a 14.40 to finish 28th. The 4x400 meter relay team of Hoblitt, Drew, Ashley Stec and Sandersfeld finished third in the second section with a time of 3:51.44. Sophomore Rachel Stevens equaled her leap of last week, clearing 5-7 in the high jump to finish seventh.

 

Freshman Terrence McGaughy finished 10th overall and fourth among collegians in the 100 meters with a time of 10.70 and was 14th overall and 10th among collegians with a 21.68 in the 200 meters. Sophomore Tyler Hoerner placed 10th in the 400 meters after running a 48.41 and junior Patrick Berg placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 51-4.25 and was 13th in the discus at 159-9.

 

At the Colorado Invitational, Richard Mattison won the long jump with a leap of22-1. Senior Jeff Vaden was victorious in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.88 to improve his qualifying time for the Big Sky Championship. Marty Wittmer also won the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 54.08 to improve his ranking on the Big Sky Championship list.

 

Abby Weedor finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.72. The 4x400 relay consisting of Lauren Iseman, Shannon Hageman, KeiLyn Tanimoto and Keira Moczulski was second with a time of 4:07.54, while the men's quartet of Josh Keahey, Joe Pummer, Travis Stanford and Marty Wittmer was third in 3:21.31.

 

Next weekend, the Bears will compete in the Ram Open, hosted by Colorado State in Fort Collins. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
