Colorado Springs, COLO. - The University of Northern Colorado men's and women's cross country teams were both in Colorado Springs today for the Colorado College Invitational. The women's team was victorious, scoring 42 points, while the men's team finished fifth scoring 120.

For the third consecutive meet, freshman Daniel Sojka led the men's team, finishing 23rd overall and 10th among collegiate runners, completing the five-mile course in 28:27.40. Next across the finish line was Alex Rice in 40th place overall and 24th in the college ranks with a time of 30:34.72. Travis Stanford placed 51st among all runners and 25th among collegians, clocking in at 30:50.65, while Ben Corchado crossed the tape in 31:44.90 for 59th and 30th, respectively. Rounding out the team scoring was Joe Slack placing 72nd and 31st with a time of 32:45.87, while Matt Roberts (81, 35:51.56) also competed for the Bears.

On the women's side, Denise Kintzley finished eighth overall and was the fifth collegian, running a 24:04.91 over six kilometers. Katie Wiederholt (24:17.69) and Brianna Spletstoser (24:31.47) finished back-to-back in 10th and 11th, respectively, while Jacqueline Lomax (24:43.09) was right behind them in 13th place. Colleen Sanderlin (24:46.47) and Kellie Callahan (24:48.06) also finished back-to-back in 15th and 16th, respectively, with Sanderlin rounding out the team scoring. Also competing, but not figuring in the scoring were Allison McIntire (35th, 25:51.12), April Casados (46th, 26:38.78), Erin Apsey (48th, 26:56.72) and Emily Hartman (52nd, 27:16.22)

Next weekend, the Bears will be in action at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, hosted by the University of Colorado in Boulder.
