2006 Division I All-Independent First-Team Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 9th round (pick No.268 overall) in the 2006 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft ... program's all-time saves leader for a career (12) and a season (7) ... led the team in both batting average and saves as a sophomore and junior ... one of the best all-around players in the region and among D-I Independents ... hit safely in 69 of 79 games from the middle of his sophomore season until the end of his junior year ... reached base safely in 72 of 77 games from the middle of his sophomore year to the end of his junior season ... in three years had 48 multiple-hit and 23 multiple-RBI games.
2006: Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 9th round (pick No.268 overall) in the 2006 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft ... was Division I All-Independent first-team selection for the second consecutive season ... was on the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List (National Player of the Year) to start the season ... started all 46 games in which he played during the year (missed five due to injury) and appeared in 13 games as a pitcher ... ranked in the top-10 in five different offensive categories among D-I Independent players, including second in hits (1.54/game), fourth in total bases (2.41/game), fifth in RBI (2.41/game) , seventh in doubles (0.30/game) and 10th in home runs (0.17/game) ... ranked 29th nationally in toughest to strikeout (only 13 strikeouts in 205 at-bats, including only two strikeouts looking) ... walked more times (14) than he struck out (13), a rarity among power hitters ... in 11 games against D-I Independent teams, hit .417 (20-for-48), with 15 runs, six home runs, 16 RBI, a .833 slugging percentage and .472 on-base percentage; was 0-0 with three saves and a 2.45 ERA on the mound against independent teams ... was named the MVP of the D-I Independent Tournament for the second year in a row after hitting three home runs, saving a game on the mound and leading the Bears to the team title in Sioux Falls, S.D.; hit .471 (8-for-17) with seven runs scored, two doubles, eight RBI, a 1.118 slugging percentage, .550 on-base percentage and did not commit an error in the field in the four-game event ... also the Bears closer ... recorded five saves during the season, tops on the team, and fourth among D-I Independent players ... set school record for career saves during the year (12), doing so with a save against South Dakota State on April 8 ... had one bad outing during the year (5 runs vs. Washington State), but if you take that game out of his stats, had an ERA of 2.07 (instead of 5.40) ... had a long hitting streak of 17 during the season (his first 17 games of the season); ended the season with a eight-game hitting streak ... hit in 14 of final 15, 19 of final 21 games and 39 of 46 total games during the year ... had only 3 of 46 games this season where he did not reach base (vs. BYU, #2 Nebraska and #12 Arkansas); despite not getting a hit vs. Arkansas, came in to pitch the final inning to pick up the save in a 4-2 upset victory of the Hogs ... led the team with 19 multi-hit games and was second with 12 multi-RBI games ... was 3-for-6 with four RBI in a win over Nebraska-Kearney; also picked up the win on the mound in that game in pitching the final three innings on an 11-inning game, allowing only one hit and striking out four... was 2-for-5 with a home run and picked up a save vs. South Dakota State (Apr. 8) ... was 4-for-6 with four RBI, a home run and a save on the mound against Utah Valley State (Apr. 15) ... was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a triple against New Mexico State (Feb. 24), then came in to pitch final 2/3 of an inning to pick up his first save of the season ... in his five saves, three times he hit a home run and recorded save in the same game; did so vs. South Dakota State (Apr. 8), Utah Valley State (Apr. 15) and IPFW (May 19) ... hit 100 on the radar gun at Kansas (May 14) ... was 4-for-5 with two runs scored in a 12-3 win at Sacramento State (March 10) ... was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, including a home run, in a loss to Washington State (Apr. 22) ... was 3-for-3 with three RBI against BYU (April 25) ... was 3-for-6 with four runs scored, two RBI, a double and home run against Air Force in the home season finale (May 2) ... named Northern Colorado Male Student-Athlete of the Month for February after hitting .346 (9-for-26) with five RBI and recording a save on the mound ... had a 16.2 strikeouts per 9-innings ratio; had a stretch where he recorded 12 of 13 outs all by strikeouts ... opponents hit only .234 against him and he allowed only two extra base hits (both home runs) ... struck out the side against each Air Force (Feb. 8), South Dakota State (Apr. 8), South Dakota State (Apr. 9), and #12 Arkansas (Apr. 19) ... in last 10 games of the season, hit .404 (19-for-47) with 14 runs, six doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI and a .787 slugging percentage as the Bears went 7-3 overall to end the campaign ... had four hits with the bases loaded during the year ... reached base 51.1 percent as the leadoff hitter of an inning ... hit .328 (21-for-64) with runners in scoring position, .550 (11-for-20) with runners on third base and less than two outs, .358 with two outs (24-for-67) and advanced the runner 47.4 percent of the time ... named the Northern Colorado Male Break Through Athlete of the Year as well as being named to the All-Bear Team.
2005: Division I All-Independent first-team selection and runner-up for D-I Independent Player of the Year honors ... appeared in 51 total games, starting 46 contests, 41 at third base and five as the designated hitter ... made 15 appearances on the mound as the Bears closer, including 12 games in which he was both a batter and later entered the game to pitch ... proved to be the team's MVP, as he not only led the team in hitting but tied the school's single-season record for saves (7), a stat that led all D-I Independents ... also led team in slugging percentage and on-base percentage and was second on the team in hits, home runs and total bases and third in runs, doubles and RBI ... hit .351 (13-for-37) with 11 RBI and was 1-1 with a pair of saves in nine total games against D-I Independents ... ... named co-MVP (along with Phil Delich) of the Division I Independent Invitational after hitting a pair of home runs and driving in an event-high six runs and also recording a save on the mound as the Bears won the team championship ... on the mound, not only tied the single-season saves record (something he did on May 20 against South Dakota State) but is now only one away from the career mark ... recorded saves against Washington State (where he hit 96 mph on the radar gun), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, two against Air Force, two against Southern Utah and South Dakota State ... allowed only three of 10 total inherited runners to score ... three wins (against Kansas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Southern Utah) were second most on the team, despite pitching only 16.2 total innings ... gave up earned runs in only three of his 15 appearances ... struck out 15 (including the side at New Mexico) and walked only seven; had a 8.13 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio ... most impressive performances came when he played third and then entered late to pitch ... was 3-for-6 including a two-out, two-RBI single in the Bears final at-bat at Air Force (Apr. 19) as Bears came from behind to win 6-5; after scoring the game-tying run went to bullpen to warmup and then entered the game in the bottom of the inning as the pitcher to record the save ... earlier in the season against Air Force (Mar. 29) was 4-for-4 at the plate, including a home run and double, then came into contest and got Bears out of a bases loaded jam and recorded a save ... was a combined 6-for-8 in the doubleheader against Air Force then recorded second save of the week against Southern Utah to earn D-I Independent Player of the Week honors (Apr. 5) ... for the season against Air Force hit .643 (9-for-14) with six runs, six RBI, a .929 slugging percentage and two saves ... after slow start offensively (he was hitting only .190 on March 17) put together hitting streak of 9, 10 and 7 games in hitting safely in 21 of 23 and 30 of 33 games to end the season and raise hit batting average to as high was .378 (almost 200 points higher than where it was at the middle of March) ... nine-game hit streak ended at No. 14 Arkansas, where he suffered a concussion after getting hit in the head with a ball at third base; he did remain in to bat once after being injury, but hard hit ball was caught ended the streak ... after missing three games with the concussion, returned to record the 10-game hitting streak which was his career-long ... returned to field following concussion against Metro State (Apr. 13), going 4-for-6 with five RBI and a pair of home runs in the 20-2 victory ... was 2-for-5 with a key two-run home run and four RBI in 8-5 upset victory at Wichita State (May 10) ... was 4-for-5 with three runs scored against Southern Utah (May 7) and also picked up the save in that contest ... was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBI in a 12-7 victory over BYU (Apr. 26) ... named Northern Colorado Male Student-Athlete of the Month for April after hitting .438 (21-for-48) with four doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in 12 games while also compiling a 1-1 record, 3.86 ERA and two saves in 4.2 innings of work ... had 19 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI games, which ranked second on the team in both categories; had 11 multi-hit games in his last 21 overall contests ... ... hit .321 (17-for-53) with eight RBI in 15 games against teams that made the 2005 NCAA Tournament ... hit .447 (34-for-76) in the team's 22 wins this season ... hit .457 (32-for-70) with 22 RBI in 17 games at Jackson Field ... played summer baseball with the Brainerd (Minn.) Blue Thunder of the Northwoods League.
2004: Coming off redshirt season, became Bears' regular third baseman, playing in 40 games, starting 29 ... one of 12 UNC players who hit above .300 ... hit first of three home runs on the season against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 21), going 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI ... also left the park at Sacramento State (May 14) and against New York Tech (May 21) ... versus NYIT, was 1-2 with a run and a season-high two RBI ... also had two RBI at Southern Utah (Mar. 19) ... had a pair of two-hit games at No. 19 Nebraska (Apr. 27-28), going 4-7 with two runs scored in the series ... also saw action on the mound, pitching in relief three times during the season ... pitched two innings versus Air Force (May 16) striking out two, 1.2 innings versus Minnesota (Mar. 28) and an inning against Hawaii-Hilo (May 22). 2003: Redshirted ... served as a scoreboard operator for home games, making him arguably one of the most talented scoreboard operators in the country.
