2006: Division I Independent Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-Independent selection ... only player to play in all 51 games during the season, as he started 49 contests in centerfield ... led the team in runs 943), triples (5 - the 7th highest total in single-season school history), stolen bases (7) and multiple-hit games (19) and was second in batting average (.399), hits (65), at-bats (192) and third in RBI (30) ... among D-I Independent players, he was seventh in on-base percentage (.451) and triples (0.10/game) ... in 11 games against D-I Independent players, he hit .417 (20-for-48 - tops on the team) and had 13 runs, three doubles, two triples, a home run, 13 RBI and three stolen bases ... was named to the All-Tournament team at the D-I Independent Invitational after hitting .500 (9-for-18) with two doubles, two triples, six RBI and two stolen bases at the event ... tied the school record for at-bats in a game with seven against IPFW (May 19) ... made a tremendous diving catch against Kansas (May 14) to preserve a scoreless game and led off the next inning with his second home run of the season, helping the Bears to a 7-4 victory over the eventual Big 12 Tournament Champion Kansas ... was named D-I Independent Newcomer of the Week on April 25 after hitting .409 (9-for-22) with a run, double and three RBI in games against No. 12 Arkansas and Washington State ... was a perfect 4-for-4 with a key RBI-double in a 4-2 win over No. 12 Arkansas (Apr. 19) ... was 5-for-6 with three runs scored and a triple in a 10-9 extra innings victory against Nebraska-Kearney (Mar. 14) ... was 4-for-6 against Washington State (Apr. 22) ... was 4-for-7 with four runs scored, three RBI and a home run against IPFW (May 19) ... led off the game against BYU (Mar. 25) with a home run and finished the contest 3-for-6 with two runs, a RBI and a triple in a 11-7 Bears win ... tripled and scored a run against North Dakota State (May 21) in the championship game of the D-I Independent Invitational ... hit .361 (13-for-36) with 13 runs scored in his final 10 games of the season ... led the team with a .333 (8-for-24) average in six games against nationally-ranked team ... also hit .333 (10-for-30) in eight games against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2006 ... hit an amazing 26-for-52 (.500) with runners in scoring position, 11-for-16 (.688) with a runner on third and less than two outs and 4-for-5 (.80) with the bases loaded.
Prior to UNC: Played two years at Lamar Community College for coach Scott Crampton ... spent the 2005 season at the University of Utah where he played for coach Bill Kinneberg ... at Lamar, earned second-team all-conference honors ... as a sophomore, batted .347 with three home runs and 41 RBI ... helped the Running Lopes to a pair of regional titles ... at Utah, played in 48 games, starting 41 ... hit .232 with 32 hits, three doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and six stolen bases ... Utes finished the year 19-36.
