SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The University of Northern Colorado's rally fell short in the second game of the series against Missouri State (10-4) as the Bears (5-10) baseball team fell 5-3 Saturday afternoon.

Senior right-handed pitcher Chris Reap threw the first six innings for the Bears, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts, while Sean Peery came on in relief, allowing two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two in the final two innings.

Senior Chad Murray entered the game for the Bears originally as a pinch hitter, but stayed in the game at first base, going 2-for-2 on the day with two RBI and one run scored. Senior catcher Erik Whinery tallied the Bears other hit.

In the sixth inning, trailing 2-0, senior Adam Symons led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second two batters later when Cody Henry also reached by base on balls. Whinery loaded the bases with his single to left field and both Symons and Henry scored on a pinch-hit single by Murray.

Missouri State answered with one run in the bottom half of the sixth to regain the lead at 3-2 and they added two more in the eighth for the 5-2 advantage.

In the top of the ninth, Murray led off the inning with a double to right center, moved to third on a ground out by Andy Mees and scored on a wild pitch.

The teams conclude the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon Central.
