Enters the 2002 season as the Bears’ No. 1 running back ... set the single-season school record with 1,131 yards last season ... needs only 50 rushing yards to crack the Bears’ all-time top-10 rushing list ... excels in the classroom as well and was named to the Verizon Academic All-District squad.
2002:Played in four games before going down with a season-ending knee injury on the third play of the game against Nebraska-Omaha (Oct. 5) ... rushed for 164 yards (41.0/game) and scored two touchdowns ... named to the honorable mention academic All-NCC team.
2001: Began the season in a battle with Adam Matthews for the top running back slot ... started the second game of the season against Adams State (Sept. 8) and rushed for 115 yards and one touchdown ... he then started every game the rest of the way ... rushed for 126 yards in a narrow, 29-27, home loss to Nebraska-Omaha (Sept. 29) ... also caught a season-high 65 receiving yards against the Mavericks ... followed that up with a 134-yard three-touchdown effort against St. Cloud State (Oct. 6), in which the Bears scored a 38-33 victory ... set the Bears’ single-game rushing record with 225 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-21 win at South Dakota State (Nov. 3) and was named NCC Player of the Week ... was 10 yards short of the single-season rushing record with just over a minute to go vs. New Haven (Nov. 10) in the season finale ... but with 1:01 to go, Hawkins broke off a 48-yard touchdown run to secore a 29-19 victory over UNH and set the single-season rushing record (1,131 yards) ... rushed for 140 yards against the Chargers ... ranked second in the NCC in rushing yards/game (102.8 yds/game). 2000: Played in six games as a backup running back ... had his coming out party in the season finale at Augustana (Nov. 11) when he rushed for a team-high 75 yards and his first career touchdown. 1999: Played in four games with 22 yards on 10 carries. 1998: Redshirted. High School: Named by the Rocky Mountain News as the 1997 Class 3A Player of the Year ... led the state (3A) in rushing with 2,549 yards on 298 carries ... ranked second in scoring with 27 touchdowns ... ran for 6,380 yards in his career, which wass the highest total in the history of 11-man football in the state of Colorado at the time ... high school team won four straight class 3A state championships ... placed first in state in 1998, second in 1997 and fourth in 1996 at 189 pounds ... high school football coach: Joe Ramunno.
