Parker, Colo.

Position:
Asst. Coach (2nd season)

Alma Mater:
Northern Colorado, 2005

Jared Wallen begins his second season as an assistant coach at Northern Colorado.

Wallen was in charge of the defensive line last season and coached 2005 honorable mention all-conference defensive end Kurt Hout, who racked up 6.5 sacks. The pressure from the defensive line helped the Bears to allow just eight touchdown passes all last season.

As a player, Wallen started all four years at Northern Colorado on the defensive line. Wallen finished with 146 career tackles, 17.5 career tackles for loss and nine career sacks. He was an All-Great West performer his senior season in 2004.

An active person away from the field, Wallen is involved with the campus ministry Athletes In Action and is in charge of the football Bible study.

In the summer of 2005, Wallen taught English in an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His work in that region earned him an article in the Greeley Tribune, titled the "Caring Coach".

Wallen graduated in 2005 with a degree in kinesiology from Northern Colorado. His parents, Arvid and Sue, reside in Parker.
