Dayna Finch Weltmer joins the women's basketball program for her first season as assistant coach.
Weltmer comes to Northern Colorado from the University of Nebraska, where she spent two years as a graduate assistant for the Huskers. Weltmer spent her collegiate playing days at Creighton University, where she was among leaders in several school and conference offensive categories.
One of the top shooters in Creighton history, Weltmer holds the school record for games played (121) and hit 98 3-pointers in 2002-03 as a senior, putting her at No. 2 all-time for treys made in a season. She also holds the Missouri Valley Conference career record for 3-pointers made with 294. Weltmer was also a top performer off the court, garnering Missouri Valley Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2004. She was also a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VII selection as a senior. Weltmer graduated in May 2004 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and finished with a 3.67 GPA.
"With Dayna's experience as a top shooter, it will help our perimeter game," said head coach Jaime White. "She also has extensive knowledge of the motion offense, which will help our players transition into the new style of play."
Weltmer married former Nebraska football fullback Tim Weltmer on Aug. 14, 2004.
