Coach Bruce on Kara: ÒKara has always had outstanding athletic ability and excellent quickness, but she comes into this season in peak condition in terms of her endurance, speed, and strength. Her work ethic on and off the court is second to none. On the court Kara has matured into a solid leader. She is very competitive, very team oriented, and will do anything to help the Bears win. If she has a fault as a player it is that she may be too unselfish. Kara is such an excellent three-point and free throw shooter that she needs to look for her own shot more, especially this season with the loss of our top perimeter scorer. For Kara to be our third-leading rebounder last year from her point guard position is a real testament to her rebounding abilities.Ó
1998-99: Kara started all 28 games for the Bears last season, logging a team-high 933 minutes. The indefatigable point guard had 40-minute outings in five of those games....Finished the season with 159 rebounds, good for a 5.7 per game average. With a comparable senior season, Ketterer could amazingly crack the top ten career rebounding list....Dished out 170 assists last year, a UNC single-season record surpassing the previous record of 165 set by Jenny Gallagher (1995-96). Her total included two games in which she reached the double digit mark (11 vs. Fort Hays State, 10 at Morningside). With just five more assists Kara will pass Gallagher and create a new career assist mark....Ranked 16th nationally and 2nd in the NCC with 6.1 assists per game...For second year in a row was named honorable mention All-NCC....1999 winner of the UNC Academic Excellence Award.
High School: A 1996 graduate of Falcon High School, Ketterer earned 12 letters in three different sports....two-time all-conference selection in basketball....second-team all-state honors in basketball....set school record for most assists in a game and most assists in a season....first-team all-state in softball....four-year all-conference softball player.
Personal: Born December 25, 1977, in Colorado Springs....the daughter of Larry and Mary Ketterer....majoring in kinesiology....favorite book: Night Whispers by Lynn Erickson.
