March 10, 2008
OGDEN, Utah -- For the first time in the history of Big Sky women's basketball, the conference office has named Tri-Players of the Week for games played from March 3-10. Portland State's Claire Faucher, Northern Colorado's Danielle Hagen and Idaho State's Natalie Doma share the final Big Sky Player of the Week honors for the 2007-08 season. Hagen helped Northern Colorado secure the No. 5 seed to its first-ever Big Sky Championship last week. The Bears, who were ineligible for the postseason last year due to NCAA reclassification rules, picked up two wins at home over Northern Arizona and Sacramento State to earn one of the conference's last tournament spots. The senior center, from Sidney, Mont., posted back-to-back double-doubles while averaging 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. Hagen shot 57.1 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line. Against the Lumberjacks on Thursday, she scored 20 points, pulled down 19 rebounds and added three assists and one steal to lead Northern Colorado to an 85-67 victory. Hagen recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears defeated the Hornets 75-48 on Saturday. Faucher posted the conference's only triple-double this season on Saturday as the Vikings dispatched league-leading Montana 72-62 at home. The sophomore point guard recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. The triple-double is the first from any Portland State player in 361 games. Faucher, a native of Yakima, Wash., averaged 19.5 points, 10 assists, 8.5 rebounds and four steals on the week as she broke the Big Sky's single-season assist record with 257. In a 74-70 loss to Montana State on Thursday, Faucher notched 18 points, 10 assists and six steals. Doma and the Bengals defeated Weber State 81-69 on Saturday to lock in as the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Big Sky Tournament. The senior center scored 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the win. Doma, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, went 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from field-goal range and was perfect at the free-throw line, knocking down 8-of-8. |
