Women's Golf In Third in Bakersfield



Jenny Henderson was tied for fourth Monday, March 17, after the first day of the first-ever Elco, Inc. women's intercollegiate tournament.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The University of Northern Colorado women's golf team sat in third after the first round of the first-ever Elco, Inc women's intercollegiate tournament Monday, March 17, at Bakersfield Country Club.

The Bears' 18-hole team score of 330 (+34) had them behind Cal State Northridge (322, +26) and the University of Portland (318, +22). The University of British Columbia (331, +35), Cal State Northridge's "B" team (337, +41) and Cal State Bakersfield (355, +59) are also in the field.

The tournament will conclude today, Tuesday, March 18, with another 18 rounds at Bakersfield Country Club.

Individually, Northern Colorado's Jenny Henderson had the best first day for the Bears. She carded an 80 (+6) on the 6,200-yard, par 74 course to finish tied for fourth with two others. Also in the top 10 for Northern Colorado were Matti Nelson (81, +7) and Gina Rodriguez (81, +7), who both tied for seventh.

The Bears' Katie Avery (88, +14), and Heather Daviner (88, +14) were tied for 22nd.
