SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Northern Colorado's soccer team (8-9-3), after reaching the Big Sky Championship game for the first time in school history in any sport, fell 3-0 in the final to Sacramento State (12-3-5) on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Sacramento, Calif.

Sacramento State scored their first goal of the game just barely seven minutes into the action as Kim Kemper scored her fourth goal of the season off the cross from Amanda Gray and pass from Danielle Holliday (7:12).

The game remained 1-0 until Sac State's Gray again ignited the offense with a pass to Katie McCoy, who put it away for her 13th goal of the season (39:24).

At the break besides trailing in the scoring column, NC also was behind in shots 9-3.

The Bears faced the 2-0 deficit until late in the second half when Gray again found McCoy for the final tally of the afternoon (75:54). McCoy's goal was her 14th of the year, second of game and third of the tournament. Gray did the triple feat of registering an assist on all the Hornets' goals on the afternoon.

Sacramento State ended up outshooting the Bears 19-7 and also held the edge 6-3 in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Heidi Owen recorded four saves in the loss for NC. Of the Bears seven shot attempts all came from a different player, four of which were recorded on goal.

NC had three players selected to the all-tournament team in senior Megan Miller, junior Teresa Prais and redshirt sophomore Jessica Zimmerman.

The eight wins by NC this season was the most for the team since 2002 when the team made the Division II NCAA Tournament with 13.
