LONG BEACH, Calif. - After the first day of competition, the University of Northern Colorado swimming and diving team is in second place with 194 points, trailing Pepperdine by eight points at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championship.

 

The divers excelled in the one-meter competition, taking three of the top four places. Freshman Kelly Schmeckpepper-Cook won the event with a total of 358.40, while Sarah Cook finished second with 348.95 and Lauren Tucci placed fourth with a tally of 321.35.

 

The 200 medley relay team of Nan Liu, Tori Gutt, Chesney Randolph and Becca Getz placed third in 1:47.18 for the third fastest time in school history, while the 800 freestyle relay of Katie Schmitt, Gutt, Randolph and Getz was also third, swimming a 7:44.05. The time is the fifth fastest in school history.

 

The PCSC Championship continues through Saturday in Long Beach.
