OGDEN, Utah - Redshirt sophomore Kenzie Shreeve led the Northern Colorado (10-18, 8-7 Big Sky) attack with 17 kills in the Bears' four-game win over Weber State (13-12, 9-5 Big Sky) on Friday, Nov. 9 in Ogden, Utah. The game scores went 30-22, 30-20, 16-30, 30-26. Shreeve, besides the 17 kills, also totaled a career-high six blocks. Sophomore Allison Raguse continued her strong week with 14 kills on a .370 hitting percentage and eight blocks. Senior Dulcie Stone reached double figures with 12 kills. Junior Lauren Carter led the NC attack in assists (55) and digs (16). Senior Abby Mayne contributed 14 digs. Freshman Jaclyn Bruns totaled 11 digs. NC started the first game slowly but still defeated Weber State 30-22. Raguse had four kills for NC in the first game. The Bears outhit the Wildcats .343 (115) to .186 (16-8-46). The Bears played well in the second game. The team jumped out to an 11-point lead on a Shreeve kill on their way to a 30-20 win. Shreeve had five kills for NC in the second game. Weber State put it all together in the third game and after a slow start finally took control of the match on Kolbie Murphey's kill. Weber State hit .548 in the third game and didn't committ an error in 31 attempts (.548). Northern Colorado rallied to take the fourth game by the margin of 30-26. The game was back-and-forth until the Bears were able to take control on Raguse's kill at 24-23. Shreeve played well in the fourth game with seven kills including the match-winning kill. "The difference in the match was our serving and passing," Lyndsey Benson stated. "When we served aggressively we were successful. We did a great job at the service line. Even though we didn't get many aces we still were able to take Weber State out of their offensive rhythm. All five of our hitters played consistent. and that is the identity of our team." Northern Colorado continues the road swing and travels to Flagstaff, Ariz. to take on Northern Arizona on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the final game of the regular season. |
