GREELEY, Colo. -- Wow!

I can't believe it's almost time to pack our bags and embark on the trip of a lifetime! About a year ago, when we first started planning this trip, it all seemed very unreal, like the day would never come.

But here we are, about 5 days from boarding a plane to a world so far away -- China! Can you tell we're excited?

A lot has happened over this past year. We have worked tirelessly in preparation for this awesome experience -- brainstorming ideas for fundraising, learning about the Chinese culture, bonding as a team and preparing to play.

In addition to raising funds for our trip, we have also been working like crazy in the gym. We had a great spring on the court, going 9-2 in competition. We've also really pushed each other in the weight room, and we all can see the results of our hard work. But it hasn't all been grueling work. We've also spent a lot of time bonding together as a team. We had a great time when we challenged the women's soccer team to a paintball game (we won!) and each other to ultimate Frisbee.

We know we are very fortunate to have this opportunity. We wouldn't be able to do this without the support of our friends, families and generous donors. Because we have been so blessed, we believe it's important to give back to the community. We are very proud that we have helped out with such great causes as Habitat for Humanity and Big Sisters of Greeley.

But, back to the topic - only 5 days until China! If you were to come into our locker room, you would hear things like, "Hey, did you get the conversion adapter for your curling iron?" or "Are we really going to a restaurant where you have to climb a wall to get in?" We just can't wait!

Lauren Carter and Allison Raguse will be "checking in" periodically while the Bears are overseas. Be sure to check back often for their unique perspectives on what the team is encountering in the Far East and how the trip is unfolding.
